New High Density Mobile Storage

New High-Density Mobile Storage

High-density storage is an innovative system that aims to condense the amount of space that your storage takes up. The concept is simple enough. In your traditional storage system, you’ll have rows of cabinets or shelves.

Your local library is an excellent example of this kind of system. The problem with this system is that you need to leave space between the aisles to allow people to move in between and access the shelves or files.

High-density storage systems take that concept and make the shelves movable. That way, you only need one aisle. When you want to access files, you simply open the section that you need.

Now, there is a small downside. As you can only open a single section at a time, you can only work in one section at a time. So, your staff will need to plan their day around this.

There are two basic ways that these systems operate. The first is mobile shelving that moves side to side. In this instance, you have a bank of shelving against the wall. The next row is placed directly in front of this stack and put on rails.

If you need to access files in the back shelves, you’ll move the front ones out of the way. You could create a system like this a few rows deep. The only caveat is that there will always be fewer shelves in the front row. You need space to move the front row out of the way.

The second type is shelving that opens up into an aisle. In this case, each shelving unit is on rails. You go to the relevant section and crank it open. The significant advantage of this type of system is that they can be locked down and made fireproof.
